G'day Bob Welcome to the forum

To the right of the picture of the guitar playing hound are a few lines of text, bottom row left, click on profile. Bottom of the page is the stuff about adding an Avatar Take note of this bit of text:
Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 120 pixels, the height no greater than 120 pixels, and the file size no more than 8 KB.
Locate a suitably sized image on your PC using the browse button and follow the instructions

I have avatars at 120 pixel by 120 pixel but I can't get lower than 8.72k which of course gets rejected; I don't suppose anyone knows of an online programme where I can resize the avatar to less than 8k? All the programmes I'm trying have the picture coming back in oversize

*hence the generic South Park avatar currently in use rather than my own picture!

Good afternoon, Burrito...

Not an on-line programme, but free to download, and very useful; I use 'Resize', a tiny utility, no installation required (just run it...) which resizes (obviously..!) to any size and quality. I've just shrunk a 1Mb5 photo to avatar size (120x120, 50%jpg quality...) and it weighs in at 3Kb in that format.
Search for 'Resize Peter Bone' on 'tweb if interested...
Hope this helps...

Cheers, it has. A bit of a loss of quality (but I see yours has too) but better to be original Smile

I tried to upload my usual avatar to the forum, but could not save it, as the form complained about a necessary password. Even when filling in my old password in all three fields, it still did not accept it.

Dang, it seems you can simply ignore the error message, as the avatar obviously has been uploaded.  Wink

Hi Geoff, right, you just gotta lov' em ol' modern technology... It might irritate new users of course, also because it looks a bit "phishy" having to enter your password three times for uploading an avatar to an existing profile. But I assume this is just a setting on the main myfineforum.org site, and not someone trying to steal passwords here.  Wink

Hi Hans

On these phpBB boards you don't normally have to provide a password unless you want to change your password. For some reason this board does and I can't see a way to change it. I've asked the question on the php support board.

Good evening, Hans...

Just enter your password, that's all.  Rolling Eyes  It's not as if you can't remember it, is it..? All this fuss for a %§@*% password. I thought Teutons were supposed to be a disciplined lot..?  Laughing

(Just kidding, really; no malice intended...)

J-220 and counting...
