I saw a listing on eBay item number:321920563712 selling an UNBOUND HCT 500/1 in sunburst and or black finishes. The seller is a shop in the UK and verified they can order the HCT 500/1 in unbound fretboard style! The price was about $912.00 USD plus s/h. Have any of you seen this anywhere else, or is this the first, or could this guy be wrong? Most times when I ask this question on line to sellers showing a photo of an unbound HCT 500/1, they act as if they have no idea what I'm asking and claim their using a "Hofner stock photo" in the listing. It's always surprised me that this stock photo of an HCT 500/1 with an unbound fretboard that only had about 16 produced almost 10 years ago would still be in Hofner's site for posting, and that Hofner never enforces the use of that photo which is online every week with different listings?

The HCT500/1CV has an unbound fretboard but the Ebay listing is clearly not for a CV model. The only HCT500/1 I've seen that didn't have a bound fretboard were the original 11 prototype basses made as you mentioned 10 yrs ago.

I suspect the seller has his HCT500/1 & CV models mixed up.

I'm not understanding what "CV model" means? This seller has wrote me twice verifying his ability to special order the sunburst, black, and mat finishes, but I'm hearing from North American distributors in New Jersey that "no special ordering" is available form the China HCT production line items and that the unbound fretboard is not available since the 2005 prototypes were built and discontinued after about 12. The seller is contacting his rep on Mon. to verify if he can or can't fill the order?? I'm guessing he can't and the photo is an old Hofner stock photo?

HCT500/1CV = Cavern model.

I repeat, that I suspect that the seller has his HCT500/1 models mixed up.

Retailers in the US get their instruments from the American distributor, MDG.
Retailers in the UK get their instruments from the UK distributor, Barnes & Mullins.

Both get their instruments from Hofner in Germany, either shipped from Germany or shipped from China.

He seems to be aware of the model he's listed as being an HCT 500/1 with photos supporting that. I don't believe the special order is possible for any HCT 500/1 with no fretboard binding but he claims he will look into it Mon. and get back to me with the verification. I did point out that they haven't been offered this way since 2005 bu I'll post what I hear back.

I've seen that site and everytime I go there it has 1 available but marked "sold out" and when I take the time to fill out the contact request, they never contact? I see these HCT 500/1 J models listed used on Ebay very often in Japan, but mostly get no answers when asking about the base. Only one guy wrote back saying he attached a photo of the inner control access showing the Hofner lable marked HCT 500/1 J  but he wouldn't answer any questions about where and how it was purchased. I wrote to that seller asking about the lable because his photos showed the tuners being "cat" style and I thought it may be one of the prototypes which don't have model marked labels inside.
